The objective of the program is to provide theoretical knowledge and practical education for specialists in the field of translation and interpreting. The education of such specialists is relevant to the increased requirements for the implementation of intercultural communication in different spheres of social, political, and academic life. The development and implementation of this program offer a chance for a more task-oriented education of professionals, for closer and more conscious contact between the university and our city’s translation companies.

Among the program’s disciplines are General Linguistics and History of Linguistic Studies, Corpus linguistics, Language and Intercultural Communication, Cognitive and Discourse Analysis of Texts, Acmeology and Personal Development, Academic Writing, Translation of Business Documents, Simultaneous Interpretation, and others.

Faculty of Foreign Languages has four departments, namely the Department of English Philology, Department of German Language, Department of Roman Languages, and Department of Chinese Language. During their studies, students can choose to study two languages from the existing departments. The Faculty conducts research in the areas: “Theory of teaching a foreign language” and “Research in Cognitive Linguistics”, led by Prof. S. Gural and Prof. M. Evdokimova.

The Faculty of Foreign Languages has all the necessary facilities at its disposal, including 2 multimedia classrooms, a simultaneous interpreting center, a cognitive studies laboratory, and a resource center, which is designed for students’ independent work with a rich collection of educational, academic, and cultural studies literature.

Faculty of Foreign Languages cooperates with a number of international universities. Each year, several of our students are trained in Shenyang Polytechnic University (China), Academy of Sciences in Leipzig (Germany), University of London (UK), and others. The faculty employs experts from the United States (Miriam Whiting, Megan Gross), Germany (Stefan Karsh, Doris Donald, Dagmar Paulus), Spain (Anna Costa), China (Guo Zhen, Dai Yingli), Great Britain (Peter Mitchell, Kate Rawson Jones), Italy (Angelo Falvino), France (Ieriks Bleton).

Required documents (to be submitted online):

 

1) a passport copy;

2) a diploma copy (OR a registrar-issued transcript of grades for the last semester); upon arrival students must provide the admissions committee with an original document;

NOTE! documents received in a foreign country are submitted legalized in accordance with the procedure established by the legislation of the Russian Federation, or with the apostille (except when, in accordance with the legislation of the Russian Federation and (or) international treaty legalization and apostille are not required)

3) certified translation of the diploma and the passport into Russian language (can be submitted upon arrival)

4) a completed application form (online)

5) other diplomas and certificates proving any other achievements (if available)

6) entrance exams:

                - written test in English 

                - an interview in English

Tuition fee per year is 188 900 rub.
